In today’s high-speed communication networks, encryption plays a critical role in securing end-to-end data transmission. From the data plane to the key, control, and management planes, encryption must seamlessly integrate across all layers.

Operators and customers can choose from multiple encryption approaches, spanning from the physical layer (Layer 1) to higher-layer applications. One of the most effective methods is optical encryption, which ensures secure transmission over fibre-optic networks by encrypting the entire data segment—including overhead and in-band control channels.
